Angina Pectoris

Angina is a clinical term to the symptoms of chest pain and discomfort resulting usually from coronary artery disease (inadequate blood supply to the heart muscle due to narrowed coronary arteries). The symptoms of angina are tightness, heaviness, squeezing sensation in the chest, shoulders, neck, jaw, or back.

An angina attack may last for 5-15 minutes or less and the pain is predictable and manageable. This is stable angina. Unstable anginas are unpredictable causing more severe pain and last longer. Angina pectoris is associated with other symptoms such as lack of sleep, lack of energy, fatigue, shortness of breath, sweat, cold or pale skin, anxiousness, nausea or vomiting, light headedness or fainting. The patient may need an electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiogram, stress testing, or imaging studies and coronary angiography to establish the diagnosis.

Dr Shiva Prasad’s clinic is a chest pain centre with advanced facilities to care for patients with angina, unstable angina and heart attacks. The clinic offers the diagnosis and treatment of angina pectoris and other heart conditions that cause the chest discomfort.
