Arrhythmias or dysrhythmias are a group of problems that are noted by altered heart rate caused by disruption of normal sequence of electrical impulses to the heart. In arrhythmias, your heart may beat faster (tachycardia), slower (bradycardia) or irregularly (flutter, fibrillation, palpitation). Arrhythmias may be caused due to an underlying heart disease, electrolyte imbalance (potassium), injury from heart attack, recovery from surgery, and, weak or damaged heart muscle. Arrhythmias may be corrected with medication, procedures such as cardioversion, catheter ablation, pacemaker, or surgery.
